Big things - Little Spaces

I discovered a new talent recently. I’m able to squeeze myself through small spaces. I’m not sure if I could have accomplished my new skill 3 months ago when I weighed 108 lbs, but I can now.

One of my favorite places to go outside is in the East Garden. Remember me telling the story of my squirrel hunting grounds? It’s the same place.

Lately when the human kids from next door (aka the grandkids) come to visit, Mom encourages me to play in this garden. Only sometimes I don’t want to stay in the garden a long time; especially when there are so many happy sounds coming from inside.

During one of those long stays in the garden I decided to stick my head in the low flap opening between the garden and the master bathroom. I liked the sounds and smells from inside so I pushed a little more of myself through the flap. It was a very small opening, about 12” tall x 6” wide. I told myself, if Elvis and Penny go in and out this opening, I should do it, too. Mom and Dad have probably been waiting for me to learn how to do this trick.

Now let me tell you, I had grave misgivings about my chances of success after passing my head, one leg and shoulder inside. I found I had to twist myself upside down and wiggle a lot to get the second leg and shoulder inside.

Once that part had succeeded in getting through the opening, I realized I had to turn a corner to the left before moving any further because a vanity was in my way.

I’m not going to reveal the secret to my skill in getting my back half through while tackling the cabinet obstacle. If I did, Mom and Dad might not let me get away with using this flap again. Let me just say, I was mighty proud of my accomplishment.

Mom and Dad have told everyone they know about my new skill. I guess they’re proud, too. No one they tell believes them. Everyone thinks it’s not feasible. I’d demonstrate for the non-believers but Mom and Dad block the flap opening each time they let me out in the garden.

Oh well. I’ll be ready to show off my talent the next opportunity I get. Until then, enjoy this montage of others who have tried to master the skill of a doggie Door:
