Today is my one month anniversary with my new family. The scary and confused moments of the beginning days are mostly all gone. They are replaced with comfortable naps, long walks, good food, and lots of love.

I truly enjoy car rides. I look forward to them so much that if I’m let out into the garage, I expect to either have the garage door opened and start my walk or to have the car door opened inviting me to get in. A few days ago I think I got psyched out by Mom.

She let me out into the garage while she talked with her friend as her friend was preparing to drive away. My harness and leash hadn’t been put on me so I became excited for Mom to open the car door. Instead Mom opened the door and tried to entice me to come back inside the house. Oh no!! I wasn’t going to be tricked into missing a car ride. I stood beside the car door and barked. Looking at Mom then the car door to signal her what I wanted. I must say it takes humans a long time to get the point of our communication.

Finally

Mom opened the car door and I jumped in the back seat. Thank God, she finally understands. Not so. She started asking me to jump out of the car. I didn’t budge. I wanted a car ride. Mom’s friend said, ‘Looks like you’re taking him for a ride’.

After another series of miscommunication, Mom tried to reach in to grab my collar. I showed her and jumped into the front passenger seat turned around to face her. I would have stuck out my tongue to give her a raspberry but dogs don’t stoop to those childish acts.

I won. Mom finally got in and drove out of the driveway with me in the front seat. I was so proud I stood my ground. She got me, though. She only drove to the corner and turned around to go back home.

Oh well. A car ride is a car ride.

Next time ...
