Walk in the Park

Behind my home is a strip of lake backed by a park. I can watch people walking, fishing, and picnicking all during the day. Sometimes they bring their dogs, too. A few people paddle around in kayaks.

Today my Mom loaded me into the car and we drove to the park. My harness on, I immediately began smelling lots of new smells. I was excited to see and smell everything.

Mom wanted exercise but I kept wanting to stop and closely examine several interesting clods of grass. She was understanding and patient for a while then we had to continue with the walk. At one point, Mom knelt down so she could take a selfie with me. My nose seems so big in up close photos.

I’m able to see my home from this park though it’s in the distance and across the lake. My Mom was so impressed with my demeanor around children, bicycles, skates and other dogs. I’m interested but not so distracted that I stray off course. People we meet tend to be wary but are pleasantly surprised that I am in no way aggressive or threatening. Some people, especially kids express compliments as they pass but none approach me.

Just as Mom and I near the parking lot, I spot a group of several people walking dogs big and small. Mom let me pause and watch them for a minute.

I liked our park trip. I wonder what new adventures await me.

Gray, I love your selfie with Mom..
